Once again I’m going to be pretty ambitious. For my July goal (also a part of my Q3 FAL goals), I want to finish my summer beach quilt. Here’s a look at the fabric:
I had a bunch of fat quarters from Zen Chic’s Sphere line. I added in some additional coordinating prints from my stash and coordinating solids. I’m doing a slightly modified version of Cluck Cluck Sew’s Summer Slice tutorial. Here’s the solids, and you can get a better idea of what the blocks will look like (though I’m going to mix the solids in with the rest of the prints when I sew up the large squares).
I have the fabric cut out and I’ve sewn most of my rectangles together. I still need to turn them into HSTs, come up with a layout, and then just sew it all together. I’m planning on making this either a tied quilt or doing minimal quilting. I’m also planning to add pockets on the undersides of the corners so we can weigh it down and maybe attach straps to it so it can be easily folded/carried. We are going to the beach for a long weekend in a little more than a week and Gregg would really love me to finish by then – I think he’s kind of crazy but I’m going to give it a shot. We have a lake “beach” near our house that we will probably visit at least once before summer ends so if it’s not done for our actual vacation it’ll still get used this year.
